Windows – A Look At The Different Types Available

Finding the perfect windows for your home can be a daunting task when you are not familiar with the different types of windows available. Below, we will look at the main types of windows available.

Bay Windows – To create that peaceful, open feeling indoors, the use of bay windows is the perfect solution. Light, allowed to stream in due to the multiple views offered, comes in at different angles. By installing a bay window where a flat window once was, you will completely change the amount of light that room will receive. With its uniqueness and style, the bay window has the ability to make any home shine, and the sides of the window can be opened for catching a nice breeze and for general air circulation. Because of these reasons, bay windows are primarily used in kitchens, however, they can also add character to the family room and even master bedrooms. There is only one drawback and that is that, typically, bay windows do not come with screens and with only the sides opening, incoming pests may pose an issue.

Awning Windows – One of the few problems with awning windows is that the position of the screen allows dirt and dust to fall from the window into your home. Other than this problem awning windows can be a very efficient way to allow some air to flow through your room while still maintaining your privacy. Another bonus to awning windows is that they can be placed in many different locations. You can use them above doorways, next to other windows, or on their own.

Double Hung Windows – These windows have various functions that make them a highly favorable window choice. They provide excellent ventilation and convenient access, while delivering a distinctive design for the home. Their functionality makes them a superior choice for any room in the home, whether it is the kitchen, bedroom, or office. Since the bottom sash can remain locked while allowing the top sash to open, it is a great option for homes with children. The primary disadvantage of the double hung window is that they are less energy efficient than other windows since they tend to leak more air. Unlike other windows that can completely open up, only a portion of the double hung window can be open.

Casement Windows – Casement windows are windows that have a handle that you turn and it causes the window to open outward. The fact that you do not have to push the window up makes them more convenient for hard to reach areas. Casement windows do not have many cons. The main one is the fact that the windows can become easy to break into when they begin to age. However, this is a problem that can be avoided by examining the windows if you are purchasing an older home.
