They say you can tell a lot about somebody from their kitchen. Granted not many people say that, though I’m sure some people must.
Certainly the cooking pots, blenders and basic cooking equipment which someone stores in their cupboards can tell you things like just how much they slave in the kitchen and the things they enjoy cooking (spotlessly clean pots and pans can be a good giveaway that this kitchen’s owner’s baking procedure normally involves calling a takeaway delivery service), but what can you discern before even opening a cupboard door?
The vast majority of kitchens include a sink, cooker and refrigerator, subsequently you are probably not likely to get far through an analysis of them (unless their sink is actually a jacuzzi, in which case you’re probably in the house of a millionaire and you are probably best off not dropping your dirty plate in there). Indeed, the most significant hint regarding the host’s identity is going to be right there on the walls – the colour they have selected to paint the room.
But if you are not the Miss Marple of home decor you may be uncertain as to what the tint of another person’s kitchen is telling you about the person within, for this reason we have produced this useful guide. Carry it with you and you never need be confounded again.
White – A plain white kitchen is a bold move signifying a courageous persona, as if there’s one thing baking causes it’s mess, with mess comes bothersome stains. It might be hip in modern kitchens but it only takes one exploding stew and unfortunately your splendid white walls will become a gravy brown.
Black – Even goths need to have kitchens, but this colour doesn’t necessarily represent an unhappy persona. More probable it is the colour of choice for a serial toast burner who wants a backdrop that can hide their cooking felonies.
Green – Should you be standing in a green kitchen you have wandered into the home of a madman. Why would anybody paint his or her kitchen the colour of vomit? Escape now whilst you still can.
Blue – You might be inclined to think this particular person is attempting to recreate an outdoor atmosphere with a serene blue walls, but actually a blue kitchen often is the indication of a recluse who would rather live beneath the sea than out in public. If you are in a blue kitchen, likelihood is it’s yours as recluses hardly ever have guests.
Wood pattern – The default for any traditional kitchen, but it does not make it less than ideal. In the end, wooden you?
