Tankless Hot Water Heater Quick Study Notes

Hello,

About a year ago I was stuck in the emergency spot of replacing a hot water heater, so I continued to read up and learn more on this after the fact as I had to go with what was quick and easy at that time. What I discovered was the following:

  1. There are many options to consider, highest on the list do you want gas or electric both have drawbacks, however some of the electric models claim 99% efficiency and there are normally some great tax incentives to go with them, however for Myself the increasing utilities will prevent such from being installed unless I also look at some type of green power solution for the home.
  2. One of the most important things to know is what the geographic region you live in groundwater temperature range is as that has a direct impact on the type and size of the unit you will need to use, as well as what the high end demand gpm (gallons per minute) is for your home. They base the formulas on the following ( Incoming water temp + demand + desired output temperature = required unit ) I was partial to Bosch however there are several manufacturers that are receiving very high ratings in polls.
  3. The average shower head requires almost 2 gallons per minute to be warm, mixing valves may need to be readjusted, to ensure a satisfactory shower experience.
  4. Sinks will call an average of 2 gallons per minute, there are some rather nice sized units which would fit easily under a sink and be excellent choices for either a bathroom or kitchen.

Hopefully this helps, as noted no particular brands are mentioned, some of the manufacturers Bosch, PowerStar, Eemax, Rheem, Stiebel Eltron, Chronoomite
